Biography
Dr. Sudip Pandey is an Assistant Professor in the Forest Biomaterials Program at Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology. He holds Ph.D. in Forest ecology with specialization in wood anatomy from the University of Padova, Italy (2019). He received two master’s degree: one in Forestry and Natural Resource Management from Erasmus Mundus Programme (MEDfOR), funded by a scholarship from the European Union, and another in Environmental Science with a specialization in mountain environments from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
With over a decade of experience in the field of Environment and Forest, Dr. Pandey expertise lies forest ecology, dendrochronology, and wood anatomy, focusing on the interplay between tree growth, environmental changes, and wood structural variations. He has contributed significantly to research at renowned institutions, including the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in Zurich, Switzerland; the University of Padova’s Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture, and Forestry in Italy; the University of Valladolid's Research Institute on Sustainable Forest Management in Spain; and the Universidade de Lisboa's Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Portugal. He worked as a research fellow in Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) for 2 years and 4 months where he conducted research on biomass briquetting, and involved in climate risk management and awareness program jointly done by UNDP and NAST. He worked at WWF-Nepal under REDD plus program as a sustainable solution to reduce carbon emission and improve forest carbon stock. He served as environmental consultant at MBUST from July 2020 to May 2024.
His expertise includes laboratory testing of wood physical and mechanical characteristics using wood anatomical research. He also conducted research on park-people conflict, assessment of forest carbon stock, forest fire, human use of natural resources and the phytochemical constituents of medicinal plants. He has contributed over 20 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and published two books. He served as a reviewer of different national and international journal. Dr. Pandey is committed to bring significant impacts by enhancing industrial applications and societal benefits through advanced wood anatomical research.
