Biography
Dr. Saurabha Bhattarai holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Chonbuk National University, South Korea. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST), Forest Biomaterials Science and Engineering program where he serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Biomaterials and Nanotechnology Laboratory. He has extensive experience in research, teaching, and academic program development across chemical engineering and forest-based biomaterials.
Dr. Bhattarai’s core expertise spans polymer synthesis, nanomaterials, surface modification, wastewater treatment, hydrometallurgy, resource recovery, and biomass convergence. He has made notable scholarly contributions through publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. At MBUST, Dr. Bhattarai leads research focused on the utilization and valorization of forest biomass for sustainable material development. His current and planned research activities include eco-friendly plant-based treatments for timber and bamboo, development of biomass-derived biochar and carbon nanomaterials, densification and torrefaction of forest and agricultural residues, surface modification of natural fibers, and application of bio-based nanomaterials for environmental remediation. Through the Biomaterials and Nanotechnology Laboratory, he is actively engaged in establishing advanced experimental facilities and promoting interdisciplinary research aligned with national sustainability priorities.
Dr. Bhattarai is deeply committed to graduate education and research mentorship, supervising master’s and doctoral students, coordinating laboratory research activities, and contributing to curriculum design and development in biomaterials, nanotechnology, and sustainable bio-products. His strong technical background in material characterization techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis, and surface characterization, further strengthens his role in advancing applied and translational research at MBUST
