Dr. Bhuwan Bhattarai is an enthusiastic computer scientist with extensive experience in machine learning and deep learning, specializing in designing algorithms to detect and segment 1D audio and 2D images. His research spans the application of machine learning models in fields such as agriculture, music, and healthcare. He has a strong academic foundation with a Ph.D. in Engineering from Jeonbuk National University, South Korea, where his dissertation focused on a framework for automatic transcription of vocal music. Additionally, he completed a Master of Engineering at the same institution, emphasizing music emotion classification and regression, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Digital Technology Program at Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology, Nepal, where he engages in research, teaching, and research grant writing. Previously, he worked as an AI and Data Science Research Consultant at the same university, designing courses for AI and Data Science students. He also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Jeonbuk National University, focusing on projects such as vocal music transcription, Korean traditional music genre classification, music source separation, face mask detection, and strawberry disease detection using deep learning techniques.
He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers, contributing significantly to his field. He received the Best Presentation Award at the 2021 International Conference on Machine Learning Technologies for his work on face mask detection. In addition to his research, he has taught and mentored students, conducted seminars, and provided valuable service to his community by implementing CCTV camera systems for real-time cow farm monitoring. He also served as an ad-hoc reviewer for prestigious journals and conferences, including IEEE and MDPI.
